The Holiday Makeup Edit | Packing For Greece

Well, isn’t this exciting!  I’m so happy to be welcoming you to my blog with my first official post, all about what I took with me to Greece.

My sister and I jetted off to Mykonos at the beginning of July, and it was an incredible experience. The sun, the sea, the cocktails… and, of course, the sheer, dewy beauty that is summer makeup! I’ve picked out a few of the key essentials that carried me through my wonderful time in Greece. Of course, I ended up packing more than I needed (the woes of a beauty lover…) but I’ve whittled this edit down to some of my travel and heatproof staples.

For primer, I opted for the Elf Prep and Prime Moisture Stick. Its cooling effect and compact size make it perfect for travel, and it doubles as a moisturiser to boot! It worked well with my foundation of choice, the Elf Foundation Serum, which includes an SPF of 25 and evens my skin tone without being too heavy. I also find that it handles sweat well without breaking up on the oilier areas, so it’s ideal for hotter climates – it reached 41 degrees in Mykonos, so I was glad to have this on hand!

To make my foundations and tinted moisturisers a little more tan-appropriate, I mixed in a few drops of the Body Shop Honey Bronzing Drops. As with their lightening drops, I don’t find the consistency to alter my base too much, and the shade makes you look naturally bronzed and flawless.

I went with the Elf Beautifully Bare Rosy Cheek Blush in Rose Royalty for my blush. Cream blushers are perfect for this time of year, since they look so dewy and fresh on the skin. This shade is a beautiful peachy coral that just screams ‘summer’.

The Jelly Pong Pong Luminizer was an obvious choice for highlighter, as the gel formula keeps me looking ultra glowy and healthy. It’s also a great multitasker – it looks beautiful mixed with thin foundations, patted onto the high points of the face, and dabbed on the centre of lips to give a pouty sheen.

The Smashbox Cover Shot palette in Ablaze was an obvious choice for me, due to its compact size and sturdy packaging. The warm shades are reminiscent of summer sunsets, and I created a lot of gorgeous looks with this. While I wish they had included a mid-tone matte brown as a transition colour, the rest of the shades complement each other well and it’s a very cohesive palette that’s easy to work with. Siesta is my absolute favourite colour, creating a striking pop of rose gold on the lid that flatters a number of different looks.

Both the Elf Smudge Pot in Brownie Points and the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof served me well in the sweltering heat. They proved to be budge-proof through sweat and sea water, and are small enough to pack without fear of running out of space. The Elf shadow is great for days when you don’t want to do a full eye look, as you can be confident that it won’t shift. I’d recommend an oil-based cleanser to remove these products, though, to avoid irritating your eyes with harsh removal.

For brows, I’ve included the NYX Cosmetics Control Freak Clear Brow Gel and the Natural Collection Cosmetics Brow Kit. Both of these products work well at creating natural looking brows that stay in place all day, whether I’m sweating, swimming or sunbathing! The brow kit is also super compact and comes with its own tiny tools (a miniature spoolie and double-ended brush).

Bright lipsticks give off such a cool, beachy vibe, and the Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream in Mango is no exception. I love orange-toned reds like Mango, which is why I’ve also included the No7 BB Lips in Geranium – the glossy finish captures the light beautifully and the lacquer texture helps with the longevity. It may seem unnecessary to feature two lipsticks of the same hue, but the finish means everything.

I had to throw in a nude, of course. The L’Oreal Lip Stylos (featured here in 001 Silencio) are great for throwing in your handbag, since the product is stored in the screw cap and features a sponge applicator, making it very sturdy and mess-free. If you’re ever concerned about your lipsticks melting in the heat (trust me, it happens…) then this range would be a great one to check out.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek at the makeup I took to Mykonos. If I’d included everything I packed, this post would simply never end, so an edit was certainly required. Have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving wearing this summer? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

P.S. Thank you so much for reading my first actual post on my new website! I’m so excited to finally be sharing my blog with you all – it’s been a long time coming, and I’m a little shocked at myself that it’s finally coming to fruition. Any blog post ideas/requests that you’d like to see are greatly appreciated. <3

  1. Congratulations on posting your first official post hun! So excited to see what else you have in store for this blog!
I love the look of that Smashbox palette and would love to own it but I know I just wouldn’t get enough use out of it and it would sit there looking pretty. Also, those bronzing drops look so cool xxx

    1. Thank you so much Sal, that means a lot! I have a lot of post ideas lined up which I’m really excited to share!!
I felt the same about the Smashbox palette but ended up getting a ton of use out of it, though I do usually dip into a matte brown from a separate palette, so it is a bit of a hassle. That rose gold shade is unlike any in my collection!! The bronzing drops are fab. Super easy to use and a natural looking bronze shade, love em! xxx

    1. Hahaha I love a good pun!! It’s great that they’re now available in Superdrug, I need to get myself down there and do some swatching! It was amazing, thank you love 🙂 x
